Morrison is known for his abstract landscapes and monumental wooden collages that draw on childhood memories and reflect a deep and enduring connection to the natural world.
Each sheet of 20 stamps showcases five of Morrison's abstract landscapes:
The first row features Sun and River (1949). watercolor and crayons on paper. This work is part of the collection of the Plains Museum of Art.
The second row shows the contrasting phenomenon of Crimson: View of Superior Lake (1985). using acrylic paint on canvas. The work is in the collection of the Minnesota Museum of American Art part.
The third row is Superior Lake Landscape (1981). using acrylic paint on canvas. This work is part of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts collection.
Lingdao. Xinri. Red Rock Variations: Landscape of Superior Lake (1990). acrylic and pastel on paper. highlighted in the fourth row. The work is in the Minnesota Museum of American Art hidden part.
The last row features Untitled (1995). colored pencil on paper. This work is part of the collection of Krista and Bill Thorburn.
Antonio Alcala served as art director and designer of the stamp edition.
